Lesson Text: 2 Corinthians 8:1-14
#SundaySchool #COGIC
Thought to Remember: Be a cheerful giver.
Lessons learned:
Despite facing hardship, the Macedonian churches gave generously while demonstrating love for the saints in Jerusalem. Remember Jesus, who, though rich, became poor for our sake so that we might become rich through Him. Therefore, how can we, mere humans, reflect a Christ-like spirit in this life? Sometimes, we become so engaged in selfish pursuits that we forget the possibilities open to believers.
For example, in his letter to the church in Corinth, Paul wrote this critical truth:
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might be rich.
(2 Corinthians 8:9)
This revelation of Jesus explains His dual status of rich and poor, or divinity and humanity, uncovering a similar characteristic for believers. Jesus was first rich but became poor. Likewise, we, being poor, can become rich. Remember, as believers, we, too, can become wealthy by pursuing Christ. How often do we forget such truths? To live by this truth, we must consider others' needs above our selfish desires and strive to emulate givers like our Savior, Jesus. The rule of generosity allows us to experience the joy of helping others, fostering a deeper connection with God. By giving selflessly, we meet others' needs and cultivate wealth as Jesus desires for each of us.
The bottom line is for believers to align with this truth, which enriches our spiritual lives and makes us more like Jesus.
My Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for providing for us and for giving us so many blessings. We ask that these blessings do not stop with us but flow to others who do not have as much as we do. We ask that You give us generous hearts and willing spirits to give to those in need. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
