The Power of Agreement

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Acts 2:1 NKJV

The Power of Agreement is more promising than one can realize. After Jesus’ ascension, He promised another comforter would enter the believers’ lives. So, His disciples agreed to return to the Upper Room with a single mindset of waiting for this promise. Only when 120 individuals agreed to assemble in one place and with one accord did the Holy Spirit arrive as promised. Thus, the arrival of the Holy Spirit only occurred because of the Power of Agreement.

Do we miss out on spiritual promises because of failure to agree with our fellow believers? Do members of the congregation who assemble in the same facility need the one-accord mindset for the Holy Spirit to manifest?

When I read Act 2, I sense a phenomenon in the Upper Room consisting of a small group of believers that set off a chain of phenomena that spill into the street of Jerusalem to Egypt, Libya, Iran, Turkey, and even to my home in Abbeville, Alabama. This phenomenon occurred because of the Power of Agreement.

I love team sports, especially basketball. Recently an undefeated South Carolina (SC) University (Girls) lost to Iowa in the NCAA Final Four. Although the SC team had the better-talented athletes, the Power of Agreement of the less talented athletes won. When individuals focus on one vision, one mission, and one goal leading to one outcome, a phenomenon will always result. It is noteworthy that in 1879, despite inferior equipment and being vastly outnumbered, the Buffalo Soldiers defeated the Cheyenne, losing only one man in the process. The Buffalo Soldiers used a signal mindset to defeat their enemy. Likewise, the Scriptures explain that Gideon had 32,000 soldiers, which was too many according to God’s plan. After a thorough reduction in forces, Gideon’s Army defeated the large Midianite army with only 300 soldiers. In these circumstances, the lesser had a single mindset with the Power of Agreement resulting in a positive outcome.

Even Jesus expressed the Power of Agreement when instructing His disciples as follows:

Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.

Matthew 18:19-20

Please note that the Power of Agreement must align with the intentions of heaven. When the Power of Agreement is used correctly, it will create a sense of mutual understanding leading to an outcome that is heavenly approved. After the phenomenon with the believers in the Upper Room, the Apostle Peter preached a sermon in which 3000 souls were added to the Kingdom. Thus, the Power of Agreement is invaluable for any successful Kingdom mission because it allows believers to agree on a common Kingdom outcome. So, let’s never underestimate the Power of Agreement because it is a spiritual force that can move mountains and create a chain of phenomena for the Kingdom.

Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.

Matthew 18:19-20
